If you want to be among the first to see the new exhibition “Takashi Murakami: Unfamiliar People — Swelling of Monsterized Human Ego,” get your party clothes ready. Guests at the exhibition’s after-party will get an exclusive early look at the more than 75 works on view at Asian Art Museum in this first-ever solo exhibition in the Bay Area dedicated to the acclaimed Japanese artist. The exhibition spans Murakami’s paintings, works on paper and sculpture, and also includes previously unreleased works.
The Murakami Monsterized Gala After-Party will also include open bars, catered food stations, dance floors, temporary tattoo stations and performances by hip-hop troupe Str8jacket Dance Company. Proceeds support the Asian Art Museum’s mission to celebrate, preserve and promote Asian and Asian American art and culture for local and global audiences.
Put on your best cartoon monster look, or just dig out your Murakami Louis Vuitton bag from 20 years ago, so long as you dress for fun.
