For the past decade, the James Toland Vocal Arts Competition has been instrumental in helping young opera singers get a foothold on their careers with cash prizes ranging as high as $10,000. The weekend-long event begins Saturday, July 8, with master classes by sopranos Patricia Racette and Michele Patzakis.
On Sunday, July 9, a group of 14 finalists will compete in two divisions, one for those whose careers are already underway and another for those considering a career. Among the first group are two Adler fellows, tenors Moisés Salazar and Victor Cardamone, as well as an array of young artists from around the country.
