Bay Area performances by the Kronos Quartet are hardly rarities — this hardworking ensemble has been a staple of local concert life for nearly half a century. But a chance to hear the group do its thing for free, and alfresco, is less common.
Kronos will inaugurate its 50th anniversary celebrations with a concert in the Golden Gate Park Bandshell. The repertoire will be drawn from the quartet’s enormous catalogue, which includes new music from across the stylistic spectrum.
That means music by everyone from Nobel Prize-winner Bob Dylan to Canadian composer Nicole Lizée, with stops along the way for Angélique Kidjo and Sigur Rós.
