For nearly a quarter of a century, the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival has stood as a reliable part of the Bay Area’s fall calendar. It’s an invaluable opportunity to explore the wealth of sounds that exist at the borderline between synthesized and acoustic textures, created by both familiar luminaries and new names.
The festival spans three consecutive events at the Lab, the venerable Mission District performance space.
This year’s lineup features a return of “Branches,” composer Chris Brown’s 2001 work for interactive computer and live improvisation, with contributions from percussionist William Winant and cellist Ben Davis.
An early electronic classic, Morton Subotnick’s “Sidewinder” (1971), gets a makeover thanks to the duo re:VOLT, and there are offerings as well from Roziht Eve, Sam Genovese, Fletcher Pratt and Bonnie Jones.
