Straight from the pages of her diary, Oakland singer-songwriter Mxmtoon is set to perform at the Frost Amphitheater on Sunday, July 23.
The 23-year-old, also known by her first name, Maia, has amassed millions of followers across a slew of social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Twitch and Soundcloud. She started sharing her music on YouTube when she was 15, and eventually released her first EP, “Plum Blossom,” in 2018.
Embracing her 21st century identity, the influence of the internet and social media on Mxmtoon’s music and success is ever-present. Her 2019 song “Prom Dress,” which amplifies the sense of alienation that lies at the core of teen angst, went viral on TikTok, launching the bedroom pop artist to fame.
She performs alongside Cambridge, England-based headliner Cavetown, musician and former Vine star Ricky Montgomery, and indie-pop artist GrentPerez on the Bittersweet Daze tour. A dollar from each ticket sale will be donated to This Is Home Project, which supports LGBTQ youth in need.
