The new Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco will host "Homecoming," a back-to-school themed party and art auction, on Thursday, Sept. 14.

The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco is celebrating its first year with a blowout bash. But instead of the usual black-tie gala celebration of the new Dogpatch museum, it’s hosting a “back-to-school” party the student council has dubbed “Homecoming.” Don’t worry, no football experience is required.

“Homecoming” is inspired by the retro high school dances and carnivals you remember, complete with spiked punch bowls (don’t tell the chaperones), food, slow dancing to your favorite old school tunes and games. The evening will also honor ICA SF’s outgoing first “class” of artists who have presented work at the museum: Jeffrey Gibson, Liz Hernández, Ryan Whelan, Rupy C. Tut and Patrick Martinez. There will be plenty of opportunities to support the new museum throughout the night, including an auction of selected artworks. If you’re not too busy under the bleachers (ahem), there will also be a surprise dance squad performance.

Guests are encouraged to don their favorite high school-themed looks from varsity jackets to poofy prom chiffon and Doc Martens. It’s going to be totally rad dudes, dudettes and dudex, even on a school night.
