For as long as humans have made music, one of the things we’ve done is use it to mirror the sounds and sensations of nature — birdsong, the crashes of the sea, the gentle whisper of the breeze.
To open its new concert season, the men’s chorus Chanticleer has assembled a program of choral music exploring this theme. Titled “Music of a Silent World,” the program ranges from music of the Renaissance by Heinrich Isaac and William Byrd to recent works.
Among the latter are “The Rivers are our Brothers” by composer and performer Majel Connery and a newly commissioned score by the group’s composer-in-residence, Ayanna Woods. A choral arrangement of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” completes the program.
